Did you know that goats actually discovered coffee? So, legend tells us…The story starts 1,000 years ago in Ethiopia when a goat herder was out with his goats. He noticed that they started dancing and bouncing around after eating bright red cherries from a particular bush. The coffee bean is actually the pit of a sweet, bright red cherry-like fruit. The goat herder was perplexed by this and brought some cherries back to a local monastery to ask the monks.

The monks hadn’t heard about this. They decided to try it by grinding up the fruit and drinking it in tea. They found they could stay awake long into the evenings during their services. Word of these wakeful monks traveled. Soon, traders came to Ethiopia to bring back cherry trees to cultivate in their homeland of Yemen.
